Sonara is local-first. It works entirely in your browser, and nothing leaves your device unless you turn on sync by signing in.
What stays on your device
Sonara runs only on YouTube pages. The tracklists, edits, likes, setlists, library and preferences you create are stored in your browser's extension storage. Audio analysis used to find track boundaries runs locally and its results are never uploaded.
Sync (optional)
If you choose to sign in with Google to sync between computers:
- Sonara receives your Google account's basic profile and email address through Firebase Authentication, and uses them only to identify your account.
- Your library data — tracklists and edits, likes, setlists, saved items, and the preferences you choose to sync — is stored in Google Cloud Firestore under your account. Security rules allow only your signed-in account to read or write it.
- Recomputable data (audio analysis, caches) and device-specific settings are not synced.
Signing out stops sync. Your local data stays on your device.
What Sonara does not do
- No analytics, tracking or advertising.
- No selling or sharing of your data.
- No access to your YouTube account, history or other websites.
Services used
Sonara loads content from YouTube on the pages you visit. Sync uses Google Sign-In, Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, operated by Google under Google's Privacy Policy.
